Dotting the I’s and Crossing the T’s for March 15th Layoff Notices

February 21, 2014
2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Hosted by SSDA and the Firm of Lozano Smith

SSDA in conjunction with the firm of Lozano Smith will present a refresher webinar on procedural practices for the upcoming March 15th Layoff Notices.  Too often a small error or oversight can be used to overturn a school district's need for a reduction in staff.  This results in costs the district cannot afford.  The layoff process has numerous requirements.  This webinar will ensure that you have followed all of the required steps to protect yourself and your district.  The webinar is designed for Superintendents and Governing Board Presidents as a double check.  With the passage of Proposition 30 last year and the Governor's new Local Control Funding Formula model, many districts will still be facing the necessity to cut personnel costs to replace lost revenue from declining enrollment, increased costs for step and column, loss of furlough-day savings, and other fiscal challenges.  This webinar is designed for you if you have to adopt March 15th layoff notices.

The cost is $35 for members, $50 for non-members.  Click here to register!

Hosted Golf Tournament in Monterey!

Superintendents are invited to participate in a golf tournament on January 30, 2014, at the Pasadera Country Club, in Monterey, CA.  The tournament is hosted by Powerhouse Alliance and benefits the SSDA Student Scholarship Foundation.  Donations to the Scholarship Fund will be accepted at registration.  Superintendents golfing in the tournament are asked to bring the names of two students that are deserving of the scholarship; the names will be collected and randomly drawn after the tournament.  Each scholarship awarded will be for $2,500 (currently the tournament has accumulated $5,000 and is expected to grow.)  Please see the attached registration form for more information and join us in beautiful Monterey, California!

Stan Butts of Indoor Environmental Services has invited SSDA to be a part of the event they were holding while at ACSA in Monterey.  IES started the POWERHOUSE ALLIANCE over five years ago, creating a partnership between IES and Erickson Hall to increase their joint ability to service California schools.  We would like to thank IES, Erickson Hall and the POWERHOUSE ALIANCE for this rewarding occasion.

Feel free to contact Bert Johnson of IES (916-570-1013) or Debra Pearson of SSDA (530-415-1152) with any questions you may have.
