Our Work
The SSDA’s work is simple: obtain great support services and favorable legislation for our small school district members and associates. Our job is to help simplify the work that small school district boards of education and superintendents must do to produce stellar results for their students and their staff. Since most small school districts lack middle management staff persons, most of the work is done by the superintendent, the superintendent’s executive assistant, and principals. For these dedicated individuals, time is of the essence. A large portion of a small school district’s budget is restricted. There is little room for special projects and programming.
The SSDA’s task is to help small school districts complete their work with more efficiency and accuracy. We work to encourage the development of legislation that will reduce paperwork, establish minimum funding for small school districts, or streamline mandated requirements. We also work to develop various support programs that will help students become more successful and reduce overall small school district operating costs. For specific examples, see the SSDA Membership brochure.
The SSDA Superintendent HelpDesk answers member questions about any aspect of school district operations and can help connect new and experienced superintendents to the resources they need. For more information, please see the Superintendent Help Desk in the Members Only Section.
The SSDA also links small school district staff to businesses that work well with small school districts. Many of these businesses, called SSDA Associate Members, also provide discounts to SSDA members as well as a consulting staff when appropriate. Click here to see a list of SSDA Associate Members.
